Salay Prayzaan has won the 2025 Emerald Award in the Energy Category
Exciting news! The living proof of the Environment and Climate Change Department’s (ECC) commitment to environmental excellence, Salay Prayzaan, is the winner of the 2025 Emerald Awards’ Energy category.
Conferred on June 5, this Emerald Award recognizes Salay Prayzaan’s meaningful contribution to the province’s sustainable energy landscape. The 4.86-megawatt solar farm is capable of producing enough power to offset the electricity load of all MNA buildings and affiliate operations across the province annually. That’s equivalent to powering almost 1,200 Albertan homes!
Metis Nation of Alberta: We would like to thank the Alberta Emerald Foundation for recognizing Salay Prayzaan. We also extend our thanks to Citizens and our partners--- Métis Crossing, ATCO, the Town of Smoky Lake, Carvel Electric, Smoky Lake County, and Arcadis--- for bringing Salay Prayzaan to life.
Finally, we thank our government partners for their contributions to the project. This project received funding from:
• The Government of Alberta through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) through its Municipal Community Generation Challenge. The MCCAC is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta.
• Natural Resources Canada through the Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program
• Environment and Climate Change Canda through the Low Carbon Economy Fund
