Awards

The Town of Smoky Lake was the recipient of the 2023 Alberta Municipalities’ Municipal Environmental Award, which recognizes our community for excellent environmental practices within the Town's municipal operations, administration, and governance. 

The Town received this award due to their recent Solar Project, which comprises an impressive 16896 KW ground mount solar PV system which has been saving thousands of dollars every year in Town electricity costs and significantly reducing GHG emissions. The Solar Project utilizes previously unusable land and was greatly funded by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre. 

The benefits of the Town's Solar Project has inspired the Metis Nation of Alberta to begin their own solar project located in the County near Metis Crossing.
