Meet Our Town Council

Marianne’s family roots go back more than 100 years in the Smoky Lake area. She grew up on a farm near Warspite, AB. After Marianne attended and graduated from H.A. Kostash, she pursued higher education and career opportunities in Edmonton. Returning to Smoky Lake, 12 years ago, she was a business owner and worked as the FCSS Program Manager with the Town of Smoky Lake for eight years. She has served as a volunteer board member of the Smoky Lake Pumpkin Growers, Community Learning Council, and Ukrainian Catholic Ladies League. Marianne will continue creating positive change by contributing her energy, passion, and experience. She is looking forward to serving the citizens of Smoky Lake.

Evelynne is one of three new members to our Council, and she is very passionate about community-building and volunteering. Evelynne grew up in Coldstream, a hamlet in southwestern Ontario, surrounded by dairy, poultry, and fields of corn. After moving to Kingston, ON for school, Evelynne crossed the country to the west coast, living in Whistler and Vancouver, BC for ten years. During this time, she took a year off for a solo backpacking trip across Southeast Asia before returning to Ontario to live in London. She has worked for an international corporation, an international non-profit, and five different universities. Evelynne is currently working on obtaining her Municipal Elected Leaders Certificate (MELC) while managing the small business she co-owns with her husband, Smoky Lake Mechanical – Your Community Plumber. Her great confidence in the Town of Smoky Lake’s potential explains why she ran for Council after living here for only two years.

Melody Morton grew up in New Brunswick, where her mother and most of her family still currently live. One of her brothers lives in Alberta, while the other lives in Halifax as a member of the Canadian Navy. After living in a few different parts of Alberta, Melody settled in Smoky Lake in 2003. She has made Smoky Lake her home with her common-law partner Lorne Fedirchuk and her stepdaughter Jade Fedirchuk. Some of her hobbies include snowmobiling, quadding, and spending time at the lake. She loves anything outdoors. Aside from being a councillor, she works at Dr. Chomay’s dental clinic and has been working there for the past 15 years. She wanted to run for council to be involved and have a voice in the town, that she calls her home. She is passionate about her community and volunteering.

Terry grew up on a farm near Waskatenau, AB and has been a part of this community his entire life. Him and his wife Connie and their 3 children have been living in town for 15+ years. His children attended the local school, H.A. Kostash.  Alyson is graduating this year and both Katilynn and Matthew have recently decided to reside in this area. He has a wide array of knowledge from years of experience in different industries and currently works full time in the Oilfield while being a councilor. His hobbies include spending time with family, snowmobiling, and golfing. Terry is very passionate about our seniors and the community. After enjoying his first term on council, he decided he would like to continue making a difference by building and growing our community.
