2025 MUNICIPAL ELECTION

The nomination period for the 2025 Municipal Election is officially open! If you’re passionate about Smoky Lake and want to shape its future, now is the time to run for Council.

Nominations for Mayor (one) and Councillors (four) will be accepted by the Returning Officer from Wednesday January 1, 2025, until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025. All candidates are encouraged to make an appointment with the Returning Officer to file their nomination papers. Appointments are available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.

Before accepting campaign contributions or incurring expenses, candidates must file their intent to run as per the Local Authorities Election Act.

October 18, 2025 Advanced Polling located at Town of Smoky Lake Chambers (10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)
October 20, 2025 Election Day (Voting Station located at the Smoky Lake Drop-in Centre 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.)
October 27, 2025 Newly Elected Councillor Orientation (all day)
October 29, 2025 Organizational Council Meeting (1:00 p.m.)

Register of Candidates

The Register of Candidates is a record of all candidates who have given notice to the Returning Officer that they intend to seek nomination for office in the next election, but have yet to complete the nomination process. A candidate must submit their notice of intent in order to seek and spend campaign contributions.

Candidates must complete the nomination process to become official candidates and have their names added to the ballot.
